From the Director - Carpool
There is a light at the end of the tunnel…the carpool tunnel that is! Each week I am more encouraged by the progress I see in the efficiency of the flow through our parking lot, the decreasing time it takes to complete carpool from beginning to end, and the overall number of cars moving through each day. Those searching for carpools seem to have found them and we are slowly but surely seeing improvement. I am especially pleased because I know the process has been frustrating for both carpool drivers and our neighbors in Lincoln Creek Village (LCV).
I recently met with two representatives from LCV to discuss their concerns about our carpool backing up into their neighborhood. They expressed concerns on a number of fronts, but they also expressed a strong desire to work cooperatively with PCK to resolve these concerns. As a result of our meeting,
I am asking all PCK families to demonstrate respect for their neighborhood by adhering to the following guidelines:
1. Please obey ALL traffic and directional signs. Parker police can and will ticket in this area.
2. Proceed ONE-WAY around the loop at the posted speed. This is for everyone’s safety.
3. Do not block neighborhood driveways or streets; please be courteous to residents trying to get in or out of their streets.
4. A smile and a little patience go a long way, and will be much appreciated.
5. DO NOT drop students off within LCV and expect them to cross the road or climb the fence on to the school property. Our LCV neighbors have spotted many snakes and coyotes in the fields of their development.
When cars are stacked along the south side of Centennial Dr. waiting to turn right into the parking lot, DO NOT try to make a left turn into our lot, instead circle around the loop. This is probably the #1 complaint I’ve heard from PCK parents who are respectfully following the prescribed flow. Once inside the parking lot, be sure to pull up as close to the car in front of you as is safe to help reduce gaps, and, when turning into the main circle, always form two lanes; sitting in the center spot prevents efficient stacking.
Finally, we are trying to expand our carpool loading area by having cars pull all the way to the trash dumpster before loading or unloading students. This allows the maximum number of students to enter or exit cars in a timely manner.
I have no doubt that by working cooperatively, we will get there! Thanks for your continued patience and willingness to respect the new process guidelines. Hang in there, my friends!
