From The Director
One down, only three more to go! As we approach Fall Break, I can’t help but marvel at how quickly and smoothly the first quarter of the school year has gone. It’s been busy, but I am so pleased with the energy of the staff, the upbeat spirits of the students, and the dedication of our parent community. Thank you for jumping right in to help make the 2018-19 school year the best it can be. Our students, your precious children, are truly amazing human beings, and it is such a pleasure to watch them learn and grow.
Fall Break came upon us quickly, or so it seems, but I welcome the opportunity it affords everyone to take a break from the intensity of our school week – it is such a nice time to relax and recharge. I wish all PCK families a wonderful fall break, and I look forward to our continued good work together in the months to come.
Fall Break Is Next Week
PCK will be closed for Fall Break next week. See you October 15!
If you will be picking your child up early tomorrow, please notify our front desk at email@example.com by noon tomorrow with the names and classroom teachers of each child you will be picking up. We have a school-wide character lesson tomorrow afternoon so some students will not be in their regular classrooms.
Also, any student being picked up early needs to be signed out at the front desk no later than 2:45pm. We will not be able to accommodate early dismissals after 2:45.
Dress Down Day Tomorrow
Friday, October 5 is a dress down day for FunD Run Prize Day. Please see the PCK Parent Handbook if you have questions about the dress down day dress code.
Carpool Tip Of The Week
In the afternoon, please arrive within your designated carpool window. While arriving too early causes traffic backups and wastes your time, arriving after your appointed time backs up our carpool flow and makes the process take longer for everyone. Please remember that when your window ends, your child will go to Champions, our after-school program, to wait for you safely. If you arrive late, please park and enter the building through the east entrance near the preschool to sign your child out of Champions. We understand that you might be coming from work or a location that makes it hard to arrive within your 10 minute window, so we really appreciate all you do to make it on time, keeping our process flowing smoothly for everyone!
Congratulations CMAS Top Performers
Hats off to our students who earned a perfect score on the CMAS test last spring:
7th Algebra 1
This is an amazing accomplishment and we are so proud of your effort, determination, and skill. Keep up the good work!
Changes to the PCK Calendar
We’ve recently moved our public/events calendar to Google Calendar. Our old calendar system is no longer supported or updated, so when dates change they will not be reflected on the old calendar. Please use the calendar on the home page of the PCK website to check for dates and events. If you have an old calendar link, please stop using it today and delete the link. We will also have future school year calendars posted to the home page of the school website soon, so keep an eye on school dates when making vacation or travel plans.
The Book Fair Is Coming!
Not only do our students love the Book Fair, but parents love it too since it is an easy way to do some early holiday shopping! However, it takes many volunteers to pull off a successful Fair. Please see the link below to sign up for volunteer shifts. Mrs. Zellner is also in need of someone to open the Book Fair at 9:00am October 18, 19, 22, 23, 24, and 25. If you’re interested in opening the Book Fair, please contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Google Classroom for Parents
Our Google Classroom for Parents session has been rescheduled for Thursday, October 18 from at 6:30 pm. You have probably heard your child mention Google Classroom, but you may not know how students and teachers use it at PCK. 2nd grade teacher Lisa Church is a Google Certified Educator, and she will help you navigate the technology your child will use throughout his/her PCK career, including the Google Suite. Please RSVP to Dianne Daniels at email@example.com.
Parent/Teacher Conferences Are Coming
Come See Our Preschool Outdoor Classroom
Through the generosity of our PCK Preschool & Junior Kindergarten families, over $20,000 was raised for a Preschool Outdoor Classroom. Tricia Calandra, PCK parent and architect, drew up the amazing plans. JC Landscaping did a beautiful job building the stairs, walls, columns, and sensory path that the children love to explore. The play kitchen was designed and built by Cory Jackson, another PCK Preschool parent and architect. Dave and Briann Lewis volunteered many hours to create the Lewis Sound Garden with pots, pans, cookie cutters and much more, where children can make their own music. Ben Eggleston, Joe Cocco, Dave Lewis, and Natalie Meyer all volunteered alongside Mrs. Resler and her family, Ms. Haines, Mrs. Haithcoat, and Mrs. Sadler to ensure the Outdoor Classroom was ready for the first day of school. The entire project could not have been accomplished without the Preschool community coming together!
9NEWS heard about our Outdoor Classroom and recently filmed Mrs. Haithcoat’s class planting irises donated by the Lewis family. The story aired on 9NEWS last week. You can see the story here. We invite all PCK families to stop by and take a look the beautiful space we now proudly call the Preschool Outdoor Classroom.
Volunteers Needed For Veteran’s Day
Veteran’s Day is a big deal at PCK! We set aside a special morning to honor those who have served our country, and to hear from them about their experiences in the military. In today’s Thursday folder you will see a poster titled “My Hero Is.” If there is a Veteran or service member in your family, your child can tell us about this person through the poster. Please have your student color the two pictures at the top of the poster, answer the questions, then attach a photo or draw a picture at the bottom. Posters should be returned to the PCK front desk or to Mrs. Daniels by October 31. They will be displayed on a special bulletin board for Veteran’s Day.
We are looking for many volunteers to help make our Veteran’s Day event a success. Please see the attached Sign Up Genius to see how you can help.
If there is a Veteran in your family, or a family friend, who would like to come to PCK for our Veteran’s Day event on Friday, November 9, please RSVP to Dianne Daniels. Include the name of the Veteran and the number of people coming to the event. A light breakfast will be served at 8:00am, followed by an all-school assembly at 8:30. Veterans who would like to visit a classroom to talk for about 10 minutes on their service experience, and perhaps share a piece of equipment or special keepsake from their time of service, are invited to do so following the assembly. If your Veteran would like to visit a classroom, please sign up here.

Changing The Digital Culture In Our Homes
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office does regular presentations through their Y.E.S.S. (Youth Eduction and Safety in Schools) program. These free presentations are always informative and are very popular.
The next one, Changing the Digital Culture In Our Homes, is October 16 at the Charles Schwab location in Lone Tree. Click here for details and registration information. This session covers social media, developing a sense of balance and moderation in device use, tools and resources for parents, and more.
Our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will be seeing the student version of this presentation in health class, so when you see the parent version you will be better able to discuss these important topics with your student.
High School Information Night Is October 17
Parker Core Knowledge is hosting our annual high school information night for 6th – 8th grade students and their families on Wednesday, October 17 from 6:30pm – 7:30pm. Representatives from area high schools, including local, private, and alternative high schools, will be on hand to provide information and answer questions about their respective schools. Students and parents are encouraged to attend together in order to explore the various high school options. This annual event has been very informative for our families as they begin exploring high school choices.
Mrs. Aplin is seeking volunteers for the following two school needs:
- Marketing committee – seeking parents who currently work in marking, or have marketing, PR, or social media promotion experience. Volunteers will help create a school-wide marketing campaign, establish a more cohesive online marketing presence, and devise other marketing opportunities within the Parker community that will benefit PCK. Meetings will be monthly throughout the school year starting October 16, 8:00 – 9:00 am. If interested, please email Mrs. Aplin at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- School Accountability Committee (SAC) – the PCK SAC is looking for 1-2 additional parents to serve on this committee. SAC members provide parent perspective, assist with soliciting feedback from the PCK community, and make recommendations to Admin regarding school programs, facility improvements, and safety. Meetings are every other month throughout the school year starting October 17 from 8:30 – 10:00 am. If interested, please email Mrs. Aplin at email@example.com.
Get The New Infinite Campus App
At PCK, we use Infinite Campus (IC) to keep parents and students informed of assignments, homework, grades, attendance, and much more. The new IC app makes it even easier to keep in touch through your mobile device. If you have the old IC app, it will no longer be supported so you will need to download the new one through your Apple or Google Play Store.
