From the Director

Allow me to introduce Mrs. Erin McClure (and Zoey, her certified therapy dog).erin_dog

Mrs. McClure is our new School Counselor.  She joined us in late October and will fill the vacancy left by Mrs. Johnson who moved to Chicago. Mrs. McClure is a Parker native who graduated from Ponderosa High School in 2004.  She then attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, where she graduated with a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling; Mrs. McClure is now a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She has spent the last nine years working with at risk youth and counseling children, adolescents and their families in formal mental health settings. She enjoys working with children, loves dogs, and she is so happy to work in a school like PCK!

In her role as School Counselor, Mrs. McClure works as an extension of the Administration, and as an advocate for students.  Her primary responsibilities include helping students develop greater self-awareness, pro-social skills, and other techniques that help them to be successful both socially, and academically. She will be forming friendship groups, ’Stop and Think’ groups, and other groups designed to meet student needs, while also assisting individual students with specific needs both in and out of the classroom.  She also helps students ‘detangle’ the dynamics between friends that often lead to peer conflict.  She is friendly, accessible, and excited to work with our students.

Please join me in welcoming Mrs. McClure to our staff!

2016 Annual Giving Campaign – November 1st – 22nd

The annual giving campaign is underway.  Packets were mailed early this week.  Once you receive your packet, please thoughtfully read the materials and ask yourself “How much is a PREMIER education at PCK worth?”  After answering that question, click here to make your annual donation.  We want EVERY PCK family to take ownership in the success of our school.  We are truly grateful for your continued generosity and support of the school.

Participation reward:  If 75% of families participate, Mrs. Aplin will reward us with an ALL-SCHOOL dress down day!

Reserved Parking:  For every $300 you donate, you will get one chance to win reserved parking at PCK for a month.  There is one spot available in each of the following months: December, January, February, March, April and May.  Drawing will be held on November 22.

Support Tools for Go Math gomath_logo_yellow

Did you know that there are many online support tools available through our new GoMath curriculum? At PCK, 1st –  4th grade students receive extensive training during Tech class in how to access these tools.

Every student’s login is the same as their Google login. Students simply go to https://www-k6.thinkcentral.com/ePC/start.do to login to their personal GoMath account.

From there, select the Interactive Student Edition. Your students can find sample problems to help them prepare for class or review what was learned in class.

Khan Academy is another great resource where you can find extra support for your children in math. Khan Academy has partnered with NWEA, the MAP test creators, to align lessons according to RIT scores. MAP tests are given three times a year at PCK to help us benchmark what students have learned throughout the year.

square1_artBe sure to order your Square One art by November 8th!! The easiest way is to place orders on-line, or send in order form to the art room. Your student’s art makes great holiday gifts and will be returned in early December!
