PCK receives prestigious National Blue Ribbon School designation!

As I tweeted yesterday (to those who follow us at PCKcharter), U.S. Department of Education Secretary, John B.King, announced the 2016 National Blue Ribbon Schools.  I am delighted to inform you that Parker Core Knowledge was one of six schools in Colorado (and 329 in the entire US) to receive the National Blue Ribbon School award this year. Please use the links below to watch the U.S. Secretary of Education video announcement and to view the Douglas County School announcement.
The winning schools are featured in alphabetical order by STATE, so the six Colorado schools come up pretty fast in the video.
As a school, we are honored to receive this award, and we are planning an all-school celebration in November following the formal awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Harth and I will attend the ceremony, and we look forward to bringing home the NBRS flag to proudly fly in front of our school.  This is an award we all share because we know it is the partnership between home and school that allows our students to consistently grow, learn and achieve at the levels they do.  To say that we are immensely proud is an understatement; we could not be prouder of our staff, students and parent community.

More to come about our celebration after fall break!  This is, indeed, a whole school celebration!

Technology Class Update

In technology class, the middle school students are learning about online privacy, online reputation and digital citizenship.

Most students are digital natives at PCK, so technology has been a part of their lives from a very young age. We stress short-term and long-term implications of posting online. With that, we discuss and learn proper digital communication skills.

The eighth grade students take a survey regarding their online activities. We thought it would be interesting to share the results for you around time spent per week on social media sites.
