From The Director

Whew – what a week! With an early-season snow day on Monday, early dismissals on Wednesday and Thursday, and Halloween on Friday, everyone’s flexibility is in demand and on display! However, at this point in the school year, we are not quite ready to make last-minute switches to remote learning when snow days are called (I think I hear a few ‘Yays’ out there!). When weather conditions stop us from coming to school, we will all continue to take the day off rather than making a quick switch to remote learning for just one day. If we have a particularly rough winter, and use up all of our allotted snow days in the school calendar, we may then make a plan to utilize remote learning in order to avoid having to make up snow days in June. For now, if a snow day is called, please stay safe and warm, and enjoy the time with your family.

I know snow days can be very challenging for parents needing to get to work, especially when they hit on a week with scheduled early dismissals. It looks as though 2020 will continue to be the year of the unexpected! Thank you all for being so flexible with ALL the crazy changes we’ve had to make this year due to COVID-19 and Mother Nature.

Although we had a frosty start to the week, the forecast for this weekend looks beautiful. Tomorrow will be a fun day for all our students as they dress up and enjoy our annual Trunk or Treat event.  Thank you to all parents for the amazing quantity of candy you donated.

I wish you all a fun Halloween weekend ahead…and, don’t forget to set the clocks back this Saturday night! Daylight savings time is ending this weekend.

A Heads Up On Halloween Costumes

We are excited to hold our annual Trunk-or-Treat event tomorrow, October 30. Students are welcome to wear their costumes to school. Remember that all students must wear their cloth face covering masks as they normally do, and everyone must wear one during Trunk-or-Treat, even with costumes that cover the face. Please make sure your student can breathe in his/her costume while wearing a cloth mask.

As in past years, students may not wear costume masks during class time, and gory, scary, skimpy, or otherwise inappropriate costumes are not allowed.

Please make sure your student brings a bag to collect candy during Trunk-or-Treat.

We are looking forward to a great day enjoying this fun tradition!

Attention North Carpool Loop Drivers

If you are in the 3:20 – 3:30 afternoon pick-up window on the north carpool loop, please do not drive past Creektop Avenue until 3:18, or when you can no longer see any cars from the 3:10 pick-up window. If you are a driver in the 3:10 window, you may carefully pass any cars with a yellow 3:20 carpool sign and join the end of the 3:10 line. Thanks for your help with this!

Square One Art Is Back!

Just in time for the holidays, students will receive their Square 1 Art this week and should bring home their artwork, a catalog of items you can order, and an order form by Friday. Square One Art turns your child’s artwork into special keepsakes that make wonderful holiday gifts for family and friends, and also helps support our art department. Orders must be received by November 13. You can use the order form or place orders online at Unfortunately, we are unable to accept late orders. Your items will be delivered by December 10. Thank you for participating in this fundraiser while preserving your child’s art on memorable keepsakes.

New Picture Retake Day Is Monday

Due to Monday’s snow day, we will now have picture retakes on Monday, November 2. Any student who has not yet been photographed this year, or if you want your child’s school photo to be retaken, should plan to be photographed on Monday.

Those being photographed are welcome to wear their uniforms or dress up for their pictures, but they may not dress down.

Students currently in REO will receive information from their REO teachers about having their pictures taken on Monday.

If your child will be photographed on the 2nd, please see this important information from Van Gogh School Photographers.

What Parents Need To Know About Teen Drug Use

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is offering a parent webinar as part of their Y.E.S.S. (Youth Education and Safety in Schools) program. Get information here, and RSVP via email here in order to receive the link for the call.

Full-Day Care Is Available Next Friday

Butter Braid Sales Start Today

Spread the word and clean out your freezer – Butter Braid sales start today! You received a paper order form you can use for in-person sales, if you like. We are not collecting cash or checks this year since all ordering is done online. If you sell to other people, please have them pay you with cash or a check made out to you so you can place their order online. You can set up your personal seller account here. This is an easy, user friendly process. Once your account is set up, you can add your contacts so they can directly access the online store and place their orders. We want to be sure this is a safe, stress-free way to raise money and provide great products.

This sale will raise money for the PTA for events and services to our school community, including the PCK Preschool. Please set up an account for each student in your family, including preschool, so we can track the money raised for K-8 and preschool.

Way To Go, Cross Country Champs!

Congratulations to the PCK Cross Country team for running in the Cross Country Championships last weekend. There were 120 entries for the boys championship and 107 for the girls championship. Our entire team was able to participate in the Blue Division Championship Division or Blue Open Division, meaning we fed into the 4a/5a high schools. The entire team has improved immensely from the beginning. Thank you to Coach Beaumont for excelling as the head cross country coach, especially in your first year at PCK! Go COUGS!

Thank You, Safety Dads!

Thank You!

A HUGE thank you goes to the Sandhu family for donating face masks to all of us at PCK. If your child forgets or loses a face mask, extras are available in the health room thanks to this very generous donation. Child and adult sizes are both available. Thank you for helping us all to stay healthy!

Thanks also to the Hoer family for the delicious cookies you brought for our staff. They were a great treat!
