From The Director
Welcome back from spring break! I hope you had a restful break (without too much snow shoveling). The fourth quarter of the school year brings many exciting events, including the election of several new board members. This year, three of our seven board seats are up for election. The board members whose terms are expiring may choose to ‘re-up,’ but they are required per PCK bylaws to run again. In any event, there will be three seats to fill.
Have you ever considered running for the PCK board? Any PCK parent who has been here for at least one full year and is interested in serving our school in this way is encouraged to apply. Board members meet monthly for approximately 2-3 hours, and then as needed in smaller subcommittees to work on various projects or initiatives the board is undertaking. You can find further details about applying in this issue of the newsletter below, including a link to a board member considerations document. I encourage all parents to look at what being a board member entails and, if you are interested, please consider running for one of the open seats.
As a charter school, PCK is governed by a seven-member board of directors, which is made up primarily of parent representatives. Serving on the board is a unique way to contribute to the direction and governance of our school. Many parents who serve one term opt to run for a second because they enjoy being able to contribute to the success of our school in such a meaningful way.
The deadline to submit your letter of intent is Friday, April 9, and our online election will take place on April 20.
Thank you for considering a term on the PCK Board of Directors!
Learn How To Help With Math Homework Tonight
Parents are often unsure of how to help their students with math homework. For a better understanding of how our math program works at PCK, what help at home looks like, and how to encourage students to prepare for math tests, join our virtual Parent Education Series session tonight, March 25, at 6:30pm using this link: meet.google.com/zft-rqvh-yek. You will need to log in using your child’s PCK account (the same one you used for parent/teacher conferences).
This session features a panel discussion with Johanna Harth (our vice director in charge of academics), Jenni Zajac (kindergarten teacher), Lisa Church (2nd grade teacher), Jenn Gauthier (5th grade teacher), and Stephanie Harper (middle school math teacher). No RSVP is needed. We hope to see you online tonight!
Dancing For Fitness and Character
Dance Fit kicked off on Monday, and we are excited for this year’s program! The Foundation asked the fundraising experts at Booster to manage our Dance Fit program, making our fundraising simpler, more profitable, and more fun. Our Dance Fit includes EVERY student in a fun fitness event that focuses on character while helping our school raise some much-needed funds.
This year, our entire school is raising money for new laptops and Chromebooks, as well as continued support for REO and THEO. Our goal is to raise $50,000.
Here’s how you can help:
- Register your student on FUNRUN.COM by searching “Parker Core Knowledge.” Use FUNRUN.COM to log donations for your student(s).
- Reach out to family and friends by SHARING your Student’s Pledge Link. With FUNRUN.COM‘s smart sharing tools, reaching out to sponsors is easier than ever. The easiest way to get donations is to simply click the Facebook share button on your student’s pledge page. Plus, with a few clicks you can create a custom Student Star Video to share on social media. You can also use the Easy Emailer to connect with friends and family. As you gather donations, be sure to record each sponsor’s e-mail address so they have the opportunity to easily pay for your student’s pledge online via credit card.
- Ask your child about the Sports City Now Character Lesson of the Day! This fitness theme is all about inspiring students to be active and to activate their character. Students will travel the country learning how to live and play with more character from real kid athletes. Our dynamic, documentary-style videos will teach your students about teamwork, care, courage, grit, and celebration. Join along by watching the fun character videos with your student(s) on FUNRUN.COM.
Thank you for supporting our school, regardless of financial participation. We can’t wait for our Dance Fit event days on March 29th and 30th!
Calling All Candidates
We are now accepting letters of intent for three open board of directors positions.
Please take a look at the Board Member Considerations to review what serving on the board entails. If you are interested in running, please submit a letter of intent, a brief bio including your prior experience, interests, and any special expertise you would bring to the board, as well as a headshot photo, to the PCK Board. The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 9. Voting will be done online on April 20.
Thank you for your willingness to help guide PCK!
Any Other Questions?
Next week Mrs. Aplin will share the results of our parent survey with a recorded message you can watch at your convenience. If you have any questions or would like information that was not covered on our recent survey, please submit your questions here by 5:00pm tomorrow, March 26. Mrs. Aplin will do her best to answer your questions in her presentation.
News From The PTA
Our March Spirit Night is TONIGHT, Thursday the 25th, from 4:00 – 8:00pm at Colonna’s Pizza in Parker. See this flyer for details!
We have fantastic spirit wear available from our PTA. These fun shirts, sweatshirts, etc. are great for dress down days, sporting events, or wearing around town. However, they are not part of our regular school uniform. The only approved uniform sweatshirts are purchased through Dennis School Uniforms or our middle school sweatshirt ordering process. Thanks for helping your student follow our dress code!
Last call for Used Uniforms
The PTA will hold a Spring Used Uniform Sale in the middle of April (more details coming soon). If you have any gently used uniforms to donate, please send them in now. There is a collection box in the front lobby. We appreciate your support!
Thank You To Our Safety Dad
Thank you to Saul Weiss for being this week’s Safety Dad. We appreciate your help as an extra set of eyes and ears around our school.
We need 4th quarter Safety Dads! Feel free to sign up for multiple shifts – many dads sign up again and again because they enjoy their time with us. Get more information and sign up to volunteer here.
Connecting With Character
Our kindergarten through 4th grade students are wrapping up their unit on managing strong feelings. You can see what your student is learning in Character Coaching class with the following Home Links.
News From Our Littlest Learners
A friendly reminder for morning drop off: if you are dropping off your preschooler after your big kids get out of the car at carpool, do not park around the island in the lower lot. These are not parking spots and they impede traffic. Thank you!
Thank you to the Pettinato family for the delicious Dunkin’ Donuts you brought for our staff. They were a perfect treat on a snowy morning!
