From The Director
Did you know that this week, April 19 – 23, is National Volunteer Appreciation Week? PCK has a long tradition of strong volunteerism by parents, and we love taking any opportunity to recognize and appreciate our awesome volunteers. I know volunteer opportunities were extremely limited this year due to all of the Covid restrictions, but many parents still found creative ways to lend a helping hand. I also heard from many more parents who wanted desperately to volunteer. All of this speaks volumes to the passion and commitment our parent community has to be ‘hands-on’ and involved in our school. We are so blessed!
Please know that every single volunteer hour donated each year makes a difference. Whether you’re serving as a Classroom Coordinator; volunteering in the art room, library, or tech lab; serving on one of our larger boards like the Board of Directors, Foundation, SAC or PTA; helping fill Thursday folders; making/baking and bringing food; coaching a sports team or creating costumes and set designs for our theatre program; serving as a Safety Dad; organizing fundraisers or donating items; writing encouraging notes to staff…and the list goes on, ALL of these volunteer efforts absolutely contribute to the quality of our program and are important to the success of our school. #TeamPCK.
So, with a touch of humor and a nod to our crazy Covid year, the entire PCK staff can no longer mask our appreciation for all of our wonderful parent volunteers this past year. Today, your child will bring home a small gift from us to you in recognition of and appreciation for all that you did this past year for our students and staff. Without you, our dear parent volunteers, we would not be the school of excellence we are and continue to be, year in and year out. Thank you for everything you do for us. We look forward to getting back to a more normal school year next year, which means more and more opportunities to volunteer here at school.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Mrs. Aplin and the ENTIRE PCK staff
Congratulations, New Board Members
Thank you to everyone who voted in this week’s election to name three new members to our board of directors. We are proud to welcome Josh Haslage, Robert Logan, and Michelle McLeod to the PCK Board. Thank you to everyone who ran for your willingness to serve our school in this capacity. Our new board members start their terms in June.
There are no words big enough to express our thanks to our outgoing board members, Mike Mockus (our current president), Sarah LaGrange (our current vice president), and Tricia Calandra (our resident expert on architecture, construction, and building management). These three have worked tirelessly and been such assets to our school – they leave big shoes to fill and will certainly be missed. Thank you for all you have done for PCK!
We Love Our Earth
All this week we are celebrating Earth Day here at PCK. While it is different from what we have done in years past, students are still learning about the importance of taking care of our one and only planet Earth. From reading about how plastic waste can create environmental problems and can be recycled, to using historical climatological data to track how weather patterns in the Denver metro area have changed over the last 100 years, PCK students are learning about the importance of taking care of our planet.
From the PTA
The PTA is very excited to announce plans for the 2021 Teacher Appreciation Week running May 3 – 7. More details will be shared soon, but here is a quick overview of the exciting things we have planned for our amazing K – 8 teachers and staff:
Monday: Carpool Party
Wednesday: Support Staff Recognition
Friday: Flower Shop Thank You
The PTA will also host a decorating party in the parking lot of PCK on Sunday, May 2nd from 2:00 – 3:00pm. You may decorate your car for the carpool party, then chalk the sidewalks in front of the school with encouraging messages for our staff.
Stay tuned for more exciting details on how you and your family can get involved!
Does Your Student Have A White Uniform Shirt?
On Thursday, May 13, we will have a drone at PCK taking photos of our buildings. We will also have our students positioned on the turf field for an overhead photo. All students are asked to wear a white uniform shirt on May 13 for the photo. Thank you!
Now Is The Time To Buy That Furniture You’ve Been Eyeing
Attention parents, teachers, and friends! The American Furniture Warehouse Store Rally ends this Sunday. Please share this news with others.
Purchases made any time of year help our school, but those made through this Sunday at AFW’s Store Rally for our community will help maximize our annual donation. Plus, you might win a $500 gift card. Thank you for your support!
Gear Up For Summer Camp Fun
A summer of fun is quickly approaching! Core Care Club’s new summer camps are sure to be a hit with kids. See our new flyer with each week’s theme. With outdoor activities, water games, crafts, competitions, field trips, and more, there is something for every camper to enjoy.
Camp runs from 8:00am – 4:00pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Come for a day, a week, or all summer! Get the details and register here, or contact Vinny Ortega at firstname.lastname@example.org. Space is limited so sign up today! Camp is open to PCK students starting in kindergarten (incoming kindergarteners are welcome), and will accommodate students participating in summer school. The cost is $50/day, with a $25 registration fee that covers a camp t-shirt and a safety wrist band. Snacks are included, but campers will need to bring a lunch.
School Toolbox Time Is Here
It is hard to believe it is already time to order School Toolboxes for next year! If you would like to avoid the hassle of buying your student’s school supplies this summer, you can order a School Toolbox and have your supplies waiting for you at our Open House in August. See this flyer for details. Ordering is available now at schooltoolbox.com.
Thank You, Safety Dad
A huge thank you to Greg Howell for being this week’s Safety Dad. We truly appreciate your time and effort to be an extra set of eyes, ears, and hands around the school.
We have LOTS of openings for Safety Dads this spring. Safety Dads get to spend the day at school helping with a variety of activities including recess, carpool, lunch, and other needs as they arise, as well as making sure our perimeter is secure. Feel free to sign up for multiple shifts – many dads sign up again and again because they enjoy their time with us. Get more information and sign up to volunteer here.
News From Our Littlest Learners
Spring conferences for our preschoolers and junior kindergarteners are today and tomorrow. We look forward to meeting with our parents!
