From The Director
We’re almost there! I don’t know who is more excited, the students or the staff – lol. As we wrap up the 2017-18 school year, let me just thank you all again for your support, your encouragement, your generosity, and, of course, all the wonderful treats you provided throughout the year. From every volunteer hour donated, to the time you spent helping your child with schoolwork and class projects, to supporting a teacher in the classroom, or serving in one of our key parent support organizations, anything and everything you did to help the PCK staff also, directly or indirectly, allowed us to better serve our students. Thank you so much for another great year here at PCK! We are already busy planning for next fall (Shhhh, let’s not discuss that just yet!).
As we all head into our slightly shorter summer break this year (remember our late start last August), I hope every PCK family will enjoy some much needed rest, perhaps a little adventure or fun family vacation, and, the opportunity to relax and read a great book! If I may be so bold, I highly recommend the book, The Gift of Failure, by Jessica Lahey. I am about halfway through it myself, and loving it. I wish I’d read this book when my own children were young. I think it will become a ‘must read’ for all parents who want to train up gritty kids. It’s not fiction, but I can almost guarantee you will be engrossed…it’s that interesting!
We have just a few days of fun left in our school year, so hang in there…we will make it! Next Tuesday is a very busy day here at PCK, so please read all communication from the school (and teachers) about the times and locations of all the end-of-year activities. With FIELD DAY here onsite next Tuesday, not to mention Kindergarten graduation and our end-of-year parties, there will be lots of logistics to communicate. One important reminder about Field Day on our new field: Food and drinks are not allowed, and we kindly ask that dogs be left at home that day.
Wishing all PCK families a safe, fun and memorable summer break, and we’ll see you back here on August 9th for our annual Welcome Back Open House. The students’ first day of school for the 2018-19 school year is the 13th (6th – 8th) and the15th (K-5th).
Happy summer vacation!
Our Last Day of School is Tuesday, June 5
On the last day of school, June 5, our students will come to school for our normal 8:00 start time. They will enjoy Field Day, then have their end-of-year classroom parties in the afternoon. Please pick your child up in your normal carpool window at 3:10, 3:20, or 3:30.
Important Field Day Information
Field Day is Tuesday, June 5, AT PCK (it is NOT at Salisbury Park). Students should be at PCK by 8:00 am for a full school day. All students must bring a sack lunch – there will be no hot lunch service that day.
Students should wear the following class color:
Miller (Jayhawks)- Blue
Miller (Tigers)- Green
Warburton – White
– Water Bottle
– Sack Lunch
-Hat and sunglasses (if desired)
Because Field Day is at PCK, there will be limited space on the field and limited parking. Parent chaperones are not needed because we have staff available to supervise all activities. Also, due to our limited space and our mission to keep everyone safe, siblings (of any age) may not attend Field Day.
Any parent at Field Day must remember the following will not be allowed on the field:
– No dogs or pets of any kind
– No food of any kind on the field, including gum, sunflower seeds, and popsicles
– No soda or drinks – WATER ONLY.
Thanks for your help in making Field Day a fun, safe experience for all of our students!

Used Uniform Collection Tomorrow
Clear out your closets before summer starts! PTA will collect used uniform items during morning drop-off tomorrow, June 1, at both entrances to the main building.
On Saturday, July 14, PTA will hold a used uniform sale from 9:00 – 10:30 am. Watch for more details to come.
Coming Soon – NJHS Tutors
Next year our National Junior Honor Society members will be available to tutor students. NJHS members are middle school students who not only excel academically, but also demonstrate strong leadership skills and a commitment to community service. Watch for details coming in August.
Order Your School Toolbox For Next Year’s School Supplies
Avoid the crowds and the hassle of finding school supplies by ordering a School Toolbox. When your student comes to the Fall Open House on August 9, all of the needed supplies will be waiting on his/her desk! Get the details here, or go to SchoolToolbox.com to order. The order deadline is June 6.
For supply lists by grade for the 2018-19 school year, please see the home page of the school website.
Just Keep Reading Summer Challenge
We love encouraging our students to read over the summer, and a fun challenge makes it even more exciting. Our kindergarten through 4th grade students learned about their challenge in Library. Please keep and use the game sheet that went home in Thursday folders last week for each K-4 grade level.
Summer Book Club
Students in 1st-6th grade are invited to join a summer book club led by one of our PCK parents. This is a great way to read new books, stay connected with friends, and meet other PCK students. Parents are encouraged to participate as well! Get the details here.
Looking For Substitute Teachers
Our parents often make the best substitute teachers! If you have teaching experience and a substitute license, and are interested in being on the PCK sub list for the 2018-19 school year, please see the Employment page on our web site.
Looking For A Carpool For Next Year?
We partner with Way to Go to assist families that are interested in carpooling to and from school with other families. PCK encourages carpooling for your convenience and to reduce the volume of cars going through carpool each afternoon.
The program works as follows: In early June, we will send our student roster to Way to Go. It will include parent and student names, grade levels, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses (the same information provided in our student directory).
In June, Way to Go will send participating families information for accessing a personalized list and map identifying the families living closest to them. Your information will only be shared with PCK families; Way to Go will not sell it to other businesses, agencies or third parties. Likewise, we ask families to treat the information with privacy.
There is no obligation to participate. The information is a great resource to meet nearby PCK families.
If you would like to “opt out” of this process and not have your information sent to Way to Go, please email Sandy Higgins to decline. Include your student names in the email please.
Congratulations 3rd Grade Soccer Players
Way To Go!
