From time to time, students here at PCK face significant medical conditions.  Some conditions are easily treatable, and the student quickly returns to school and normal activities.  Other conditions are longer-term, and the student may experience an extended recovery period. There are a few cases that involve a life-long condition and the student (along with their family) learn to adjust their life and activities around the health requirements of the student.  No matter the situation, PCK students are always eager to support a classmate or help a friend in need.

Tomorrow, during our monthly character assembly, students will meet one special 1st grade student dealing with a life-long condition.  He and his mother will help us all become more aware of a condition known as NF, which is short for neurofibromatosis. And, because May is NF Awareness month, students are all invited to dress down in BLUE.

About NF Awareness Month
The Children’s Tumor Foundation celebrates NF Awareness Month and World NF Awareness Day (May 17th) for lots of reasons: to put NF in the national (and international) limelight, to foster hope in the NF community, and to create wonderful fundraising opportunities for the innovative NF research supported by Children’s Tumor Foundation.

Watch this video to see all the great things our community did to spread NF awareness in 2016.

For questions or more information about NF Awareness Month activities, contact the Communications team at media@ctf.org.

We partner with Way to Go to assist families that are interested in carpooling to and from school with other families.  PCK encourages you to consider carpooling for your convenience as well as reducing the volume of cars going through carpool each afternoon.

The program works as follows: In late May, we will send our student roster to Way to Go. It will include parent and student names, grades, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. Essentially, this is the same information provided in our student directory.

In early June, Way to Go will email participating families their personalized list and map identifying the families living closest to them (families without an email address will receive their list in the U.S. mail.)

After the lists are generated, families will be able to login to the Way to Go secure website to view and contact matches. Your information will only be shared with PCK families; Way to Go will not sell it to other businesses, agencies or third parties. Likewise, we ask families to treat the information with privacy.

There is no obligation to participate. The information is a great resource to meet nearby PCK families.

If you would like to “opt out” of this process and not have your information sent to Way to Go please email Sandy Higgins to decline.
