A Heartfelt Thank You For Spoiling Us
Every member of our staff sends a HUGE thank you to our families and the PTA for spoiling us so well during Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week. We are immensely grateful for your support and encouragement, and for all the ways you took such good care of us this week. We appreciate you!
Dress Code Clarifications
The PCK Board recently approved revised language in our dress code in order to make some policies easier to understand and enforce. For example, all skirts, skorts, and shorts “must fall past the fingertips when the wearer fully extends his/her arms and fingers at his/her sides.” Additionally, boys’ hair “must be neat and well-trimmed at all times, and fall above the shirt collar.” Please also make sure your student’s clothes are clean and neat each day.
To make sure you are aware of all of our dress code policies, please take a few minutes to read our revised dress code.
Summer Is Made For Reading
We will have our own summer reading contest at PCK, but students can also sign up for the summer reading program through Douglas County Libraries. If enough of our students sign up, we could win $500 for the PCK library! Plus, students can use the same books to win prizes through the DCL program AND our summer reading raffle. More information on PCK’s summer reading contest will be coming soon, but you can sign up for the DCL program today at https://dcl.org/summer-reading/registration/.
Don’t Forget To Wear White
Next Thursday, May 13, we are taking an overhead photo of our students outside on the field. Please make sure your student wears a white uniform shirt that day for the photo. Thank you!
Thank You, Safety Dads
A huge thank you to Josh Rein, Jeremiah Johnson, and Erik Glenn for being this week’s Safety Dads. We truly appreciate the time you took from your week to be an extra set of eyes, ears, and hands around the school.
We still have some openings for Safety Dads this month. Come spend the day at school helping with recess, carpool, lunch, and other needs as they arise, as well as making sure our perimeter is secure. Get more information and sign up to volunteer here.

PTA Teacher Appreciation Week
What a FUN week it has been so far! Thank you to all of the amazing volunteers; without YOU these events would not be possible. Special thanks to Dawn Danner and Rachel Larson for organizing Sunday’s decorating party, Rachel Larson and the spectacular “DJ Drew” Malatesta for hosting Monday’s carpool party (thanks for doing such a great job as our DJ, Drew), and the entire PTA Board for coordinating Tuesday’s breakfast.
We are having the best time celebrating our wonderful staff. They deserve all the love, this week and every day!
Submit Your Video Send-Off
We are creating a video for Mrs. Aplin with messages from our students and parents, past and present. We hope this will be a video she can cherish after she retires from PCK.
Please find a cozy spot with good lighting, uniforms are optional, and ask your child three questions about Mrs. Aplin. Feel free to send in well wishes and anything your child says that will make us all smile! We will be making a montage, so not everything that is submitted will be used.
Please record in LANDSCAPE (not portrait).
Possible questions to ask and answer on your video:
- What is something Mrs. Aplin always says?
- What will Mrs. Aplin do with her time once she is retired?
- What will you miss the most about Mrs. Aplin?
- What would you like to thank Mrs. Aplin for?
Please record your video and post it to the PCK Folder here.

PTA Used Uniform Sale
The May 15th Used Uniform Sale has been postponed to Sunday, June 13th, 2:00 – 4:00pm. We hope this is early enough in the summer for families to shop used, and still have enough time to fill any gaps at Dennis before the new year starts in August.
Please direct any questions to email@example.com.
PCK Theater Is Back!
The PCK Music Program is PROUD to announce the return of live, in-person performance!
May 14th and 15th @ 1:30 and 6:30pm
Tickets are $12.00 and are available at ckcs.seatyourself.biz.
Tickets were initially offered to the parents of the cast and crew, and now we welcome you, the PCK community, to get your tickets to enjoy this socially distanced performance. All patrons will be temperature screened upon entry and must wear a mask at all times.
Matilda the Musical, based on the Roald Dahl classic, is brought to life through the brilliant collaboration between Tim Minchin and Dennis Kelly. Matilda, raised in a home where she is unloved, learns to overcome her circumstances by re-writing the ending to her own story. Matilda’s world is magical, and her love for reading helps her understand her special gifts and propels her into a life and family she deserves.
ROALD DAHL’s MATILDA THE MUSICAL is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. www. mtishows.com
Keep Skills Sharp Over The Summer
PCK’s Summer Skills Sharpener Series gives students math and language arts support over the break in June and July. Whether your student needs help in these areas before moving on to the next grade level, or you want to prevent the dreaded “summer slide,” these classes can make a big difference for kids. Get the details here.
Learn To Be A Charter School Advocate
Have you wondered who makes decisions about public charter schools? Can you tell a powerful and concise story about why you chose a charter school for your child? Do you want to be able to directly and respectfully influence decision makers? Guess what – you can learn about all three! Join the Colorado League of Charter Schools’ ACT Advocacy Network for an on-line training on How to Be an Effective Charter School Advocate.
Together we can build a community of like-minded people to protect the things that make public charter schools unique, and promote policies and programs that help us serve our students even better.
Everyone is welcome, even if you did not attend the Charter School Basics session last month.
If you missed the first training on Charter School Basics, you have another chance to participate tomorrow.
Friday, May 7
Morning: 9:00 – 10:00am, register
