Summer News From The Director

Summer Greetings!​ ​I always like to touch base with PCK families during the summer months to let you know what’s been going on around the school over the break, and to give you a brief highlight of what’s on the docket for the coming school year. I hope by now you’ve all had a chance to relax or travel a bit, and that you are enjoying the beautiful Colorado summer weather. I find it so rejuvenating to step out of the normal routine and slow down for a season.

While the kids are gone this summer, we are busy preparing the building for the 2018-19 school year. There is lots of patching, painting and deep cleaning going on these days, as well as some landscaping and playground ‘sprucing up.’ The building will look clean and fresh when the students return in August. Summer school is also in session, so Tuesday through Thursday you may see some additional activity in and out of our parking lot. In the front office, we are busy preparing to welcome some of our new staff members at New Employee Orientation in late July. Gone are the days when school really closes down for the entire summer. Every summer my husband asks me, “Don’t you all get summers off?” Ummm, not really…

Looking forward to welcoming you all back to school at our Open House event on August 9th. Details regarding times, what to do and what to bring will follow in early August. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your summer!

Express Check-In
District-wide registration through Infinite Campus (IC) will begin Monday, July 16th at 8 a.m. You can register online via the PCK website at ​www.ckcs.net.​ ​The registration window is opening early this year to give DCSD families more time to register their children prior to the start of school in early August.

PCK’s annual back-to-school Open House/Meet Your Teacher Day is scheduled for Thursday, August 9th from 12 noon to 4 p.m.​ We kindly ask ALL PCK families to complete the online registration process PRIOR to attending the Open House event. Payment of 2018-19 school fees is required at the time of registration. If you need assistance with school fees, please contact Sheree Gerhard, PCK Business Manager at sgerhard@ckcs.net. Additionally, please note that class schedules and teacher assignments will be available in IC on August 8th, and posted near the front office during our Open House event on August 9th. The week prior to our Open House, all PCK families will receive additional information about when to attend (scheduled by alphabet) and what to bring with you. We look forward to welcoming you back!

New Faces at PCK
Please join me in welcoming the following NEW staff members to the PCK team this fall:

  • Richard Parkes -MS Math
  • Jennifer Gauthier – Resource Teacher (RT)
  • Misty Jenkins – Resource Teacher (RT)
  • TBD – Technology Teacher (replacing Mr. Robbins who is now our new Education Tech Support Assistant)

Several PCK staff members changed positions or expanded their roles:

  • Laura Lawritson – added Kindergarten Aide
  • Heidi Cook – changed from Kindie Aide to RT
  • Jordan Burdette – changed from RT to 2nd Grade Teacher
  • Stephanie Schannuth – changed from RT to 2nd Grade Teacher
  • Kristen Goode – added Gifted & Talented teaching responsibilities

PCK Board Goals for 2018-19
The PCK Board of Directors wasted no time in meeting for their annual summer planning session. The Board met on June 6th to review the state of the school and craft working goals for the coming year. Based on the Boards’ assessment, the following areas will be a focus for leadership in the coming school year:

#1 School Safety ​- Given the continuing concerns about school safety across our country, the PCK Board is committed to full evaluation of our current security preventions, practices and standard response procedures. Following an independent audit, we will evaluate and implement appropriate suggestions for improvements to our overall security plan. Additionally, the school will continue to work closely with DCSD’s Security Dept. to ensure PCK’s continued alignment with the district’s standard response protocols (SRPs), including regular drills, ongoing safety/security measures, and staff training.

#2 Volunteerism ​- ​There is a strong sentiment among the Board that parent volunteerism is one of PCK’s key differentiators and a critical success factor in our students’ success. Therefore, the Board has set the goal of increasing overall parent volunteerism during 2018-19 by:

1.) Expanding the number and type of volunteer opportunities available

2.) Increasing the visibility of and access to volunteer opportunities

3.) Facilitating easier logging/tracking of volunteer hours

#3 Facility Enhancements​ – The Board will continue to make improvements to the PCK facility in order to support our academic programming needs. One priority area in the coming year will be the creation of a new elementary Science Lab. Additionally, several other updates to the existing facility (particularly the original wing of our building) are under consideration.

#4 Marketing of PCK​ ​- The charter landscape within DCSD continues to evolve, and PCK’s reputation as a school of excellence is well known. However, we never want to rest on our laurels. Keeping the PCK name out there in the community as a leader in academic excellence is important to the long term viability of the school. To that end, the PCK Board is committed to maintaining PCK’s visibility within the Parker community through direct marketing efforts, community engagement, and word-of-mouth.

That’s it for now. Looking forward to seeing you all back for the 2018-19 school year. ​Remember, grades 6-8 start on August 13th, and grades K-5 begin on the 15th.​ Enjoy the last month of summer!
