The 2017-18 school year has officially begun and, in pure PCK style, we didn’t take the easy road. In spite of just opening a new building, starting construction on a new turf field, and having the Town of Parker throw a major Pine Dr. construction project in our path, we managed to have a very smooth first day. Thank you to everyone for your patience and flexibility! The PCK staff has been great, and many of our parents have stepped in to assist along the way. It truly has ’taken a village’ to start on time this year, and I am so thankful for all the wonderful help along the way.

Our 5th graders started their day in the new building today, and 6th grade will move in tomorrow. The students are excited to be in their new space…lots of smiles and ooohing and aaahing! Our PE teachers are most eager to hold class in the new gym, and they will give it a go tomorrow as well. Everything is starting to hum around here.

Carpool went surprisingly well yesterday, again in spite of the construction. Thank you all for your patience as the lines were longer and a bit more sluggish than usual for our first week. We will continue to refine and adjust our carpool process until it is flowing smoothly again. Hang in there. Also, we did see the Douglas County Sheriff roaming the area around carpool time. Please pay close attention to all directional and traffic signs as they appear to be ticketing violators. Our goal is to keep everyone safe, and their presence along with all traffic signage is designed to do just that. We appreciate everyone’s attention to safety.

Finally, I want to share some GREAT academic news with all of you. Every year our students are assessed by the State of Colorado using assessments called Colorado Measures of Academic Success (also known as PARCC). All schools should have the goal of providing an education that will set the students on track for college and career success, as measured by PARCC, at every grade level. At PCK we believe a well-rounded educational program that includes Art, Music, Foreign Language, PE, Technology, and Character Education…in addition to reading, writing and math…provides a solid foundation of knowledge and skills that will prepare our students for college and career. It is with great pride in our students, and with gratitude for your support of your children and our program, that we share these PARCC results:

3rd to 8th

English Language Arts (ELA)

Highest score in Douglas County

3rd and 4th

Third highest score in Douglas County by less than 6 points (out of 850 possible) from the top score

5th to 8th

Highest score in Douglas County

7th and 8th

Algebra 1 and Geometry

Highest score in Douglas County

5th and 8th

Please congratulate your students on their content knowledge and skills, their computer skills, their character growth, and above all, their effort and hard work. We are so proud of them!

In closing, I look forward to the coming year as I always do. It is my privilege and pleasure to work with the outstanding PCK staff, and our amazing families and students. If you have any questions or concerns at any point during the year, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher, Mrs. Harth, or me for assistance. We are happy to help, and will work towards a swift resolution to your concern.

Directory On Tap Is Coming

The PCK Directory is underway and this year’s edition of Directory on Tap (DOT) will be available soon. However, we need some information from you:
 1.  Does your child go by a nickname, shortened name, or other – rather than the formal name in the school database? If so, please let us know. We are happy to change the name or accommodate any other requests. Have you recently moved or changed an email/cell number? Be sure you have updated your information with the school and/or school district.
 2.  OPT OUT Opportunity: Use the electronic form below if you DO NOT want any or all of your personal information listed in the directory. You may OPT OUT completely or partially.
Opt Out Deadline:  September 6, 2017 at 3:30 PM
By completing this online form, you are opting out of being listed in the school directory.  If you DO NOT OPT OUT, your standard information WILL BE included in the school directory.  By NOT filling out this eForm, you are granting permission for your current data to be obtained from the school database.  This includes: parent/guardian name(s), email, cell phone, home address, city, state, zip, student(s) and grade classification(s).

Our New Field Is Coming!

Work has started on our new turf field! Our hope is that it will be completed shortly after labor day. While the work is under way, our outdoor play space is smaller than usual. Please help your student remember that this is a short-term situation and we will all be enjoying our new field very soon.

Call-N-Ride Green Bus

Do you need transportation for your PCK student after school? The Parker Call-n-Ride may be your answer. The Call-n-Ride is a small green RTD bus that operates within a specific area of Parker and is open to the general public. For the Fall 2017 school year, the Call-n-Ride routing for after school will be south on Pine, east on Mainstreet and south on Canterberry Pkwy to Hilltop. Depending on demand, the bus may go off the main street to drop off points in the neighborhood. The routing will be based on the most efficient routing serving the most students. The fare will be $1.30 per one way ride. Service will be provided on normal school days only. Service is not provided on early release days. To use this service you must have a reservation.

If you are interested in applying for one of the seats on the bus, please contact Kris at kristina.switzer@mvtransit.com. We only have 3 spots left. Please include your name, your child’s name, your phone number and your home address where the child will be dropped off.

Champions Is For Everyone!

When unexpected circumstance keep you from arriving for afternoon carpool on time, please give us a call. We are happy to have your child play at Champions until you arrive. At that point you can relax, knowing your child is safe until you get here. The Champions Hour is a great resource for our parents.

This year we are asking all PCK families to register with Champions so that you can use it if you ever need to. Champions is waiving the registration fee for all PCK families in support of our efforts to get everyone registered, whether you plan to use the after-school care or not.

Champions offers onsite after-school care from 3:10 – 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Additionally, for a nominal fee, they offer what’s called a ‘Champions Hour’ on a drop-in basis. If you simply need an extra hour here and there, the Champions Hour is a perfect solution. For more information about Champions’ program and rates, visit their website at www.discoverchampions.com/about/contact-us

Thank you!

A big thank you to Allison Sampson, Janice Moore, Lisha Curtis, Tom Hertzberg, Kelli Hroncheck, Tracy Keil, Linda Zoz, Ashley Morris, Sasha Marsh, Kelly Amick, and Sarah Lewis for helping with our School Toolboxes, and to Sienna, Ivwa, Millie, and Lexington for being such big helpers to our helpers! These folks unpacked, sorted, and moved over three tons of school supplies in under two hours! And a huge thank you to Allison Sampson who will take over the School Tool Box program going forward!

Our very appreciative staff thanks our PTA for the beautiful renovation of the staff lounge and the generous Welcome Back flower pots of goodies. What a great way to start the year!

A special thank you also goes out to Mike Mockus for the temporary carpool map he created for us. It is extremely helpful for all of our parents using the temporary pick-up system.

Thank you to all of the parents and students who came over the summer to help us move furniture, boxes, and supplies. Your muscle made a big difference in having the school ready for the new year. We couldn’t have done it without you!
